Isaac “no chance” to join Newcastle’s preseason tour, Howe says after narrow Arsenal defeat

Eddie Howe confirmed that there is no chance that Alexander Isaac will join Newcastle United as the striker is seeking to move away from the club.

Isaac was expected to travel the Magpie to the Far East this week, but instead stayed behind, informing Newcastle of his desire to explore the opportunity to leave.

Newcastle was beaten 3-2 by Singapore’s Arsenal on Sunday despite Anthony Elanga giving Hau’s side an early lead.

The pleasant events produced a significantly improved performance for Newcastle from last week’s 4-0 defeat to Celtic, but Howe once again spoke about the need to add a first-team signature ahead of a season where he plays Champions League football in three seasons.

However, when asked if ISAK could join the Korean team for a game against K-League XI and Tottenham, Hau said, “No.

He added: “It’s business as usual for players. I’m coming on these tours to think about things other than training, and the next game, the level is very high.

“Even in these games, we have to be very well prepared. We have to try to be at our best. So of course we think we will miss out on the best players of our best quality. The group will feel that. We will not deny that.

“But they’re a very professional group of players and as far as I can see in terms of managing the situation, they’re doing great things.”

Elanga arrived on a £55 million move from Nottingham Forest, but Newcastle endured frustrating time at the transfer window and missed several top targets, including Joa Opedro and Hugo Ekitique, who chose to join Chelsea and Liverpool, respectively. A long-term goal, Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford, is set to return to Manchester City, which has a buyback clause to England International.

Newcastle remains in negotiations for the versatile Brentford forward Joane Wissa. He is reportedly refused to refuse to play for the club unless he sanctions his move to Tyneside. Furthermore, Newcastle is deeply connected to the movement of RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesco, considered to be the best target for ISAK departures.

With Isak leaving the team, Newcastle’s central and impressive option is Osla and teenager Shaun Nave.

Regarding the need to bring in reinforcements ahead, Hau said:

“At the end of last season’s tail, we did all the work we wanted. It was a challenging transfer window. Let’s see what we can do.”

Defender Sven Bottman had positive news. The centre-back was missed after 25 minutes of playing time with Arsenal due to obvious gro caliber issues. However, the injury does not appear to be serious.
