He is charged with two counts of capital murder.
Police originally released a compound sketch after the couple was found along a walking trail in the state park. In their statement, they warned suspects that they “likely suffered injuries while attacking the couple.” They had no further information at that time.
Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders issued a statement hours after confirmation of James Andrew McGann’s arrest.
“While the crime last weekend won’t heal the great harm that took place on the Brink family, this announcement is comfort and security for our state. We are proud of the Arkansas State Police, Park Rangers and local law enforcement, and others who have worked non-stop to capture this suspect since last weekend,” Gov. Sanders said. “Arkansan raises prayers of gratitude to the brave men and women of law enforcement, offering prayers of sadness to the victims of this horrific crime. Let’s not be wrong. Do not tolerate violent crimes in Arkansas.
