JD Vance says Iran is “obviously not very good at war” and should seek peace
The Trump administration continued to show its desire to negotiate with Tehran after bombing Iran’s major nuclear facilities.
in NBC interview Meet Kristen Welker and the media On Sunday, Vice President JD Vance said Iran’s nuclear weapons program was “destroyed” and called it a missile program, noting that most of its proxy allies have been crippled.
“The Iranians are clearly not very good at war,” he added. “Perhaps they should follow President Trump’s lead and give a chance in peace. If they’re serious about it, I guarantee you too are the President of the United States.”
The US has dropped several “bunkerbuster” bombs on Fordow’s heavily enhanced enrichment site, but it is not yet clear how much damage it maintained underground, and whether it was actually destroyed. Vance later added that he is confident that the United States will “substantially slow” the development of Iran’s nuclear weapons.
On Saturday night, Trump warned Iran that if Iran does not pursue peace, more US attacks will continue. Vance suggested on Sunday that the country reached out to administrative authorities through the back channel.
The Vice President also denounced Stonewalling in a round of previous negotiations on the nuclear program, urging the US to launch airstrikes.
However, the Iranian foreign minister has shown that it was the United States and its allies who closed the doors of diplomacy.
“Last week, when Israel decided to blow up its diplomacy, we were in negotiations with the United States. This week, when the US decided to blow up its diplomacy, we discussed it with the E3/EU. What conclusion would you draw?” Seyed Abbas Araghchi posted on X. “For the UK and EU chiefs, Iran needs to ‘back’ to the table. But how can Iran return to what it never leaves behind, let alone the explosion? ”
Vance also reflected other administration officials saying the US is not seeking a change of government, making it clear that the US is in war with Iran, but instead is at war with nuclear programs.
When asked whether American ground forces could be ruled out for the ultimate deployment, Vance replied that the United States had no interest in long-term conflicts.
“We’re not interested in ground boots,” he added. “The President is actually one of the most intense critics of 25 years of failed foreign policy in the Middle East, and that’s why he did what he did: a very accurate and very surgical strike tailored to the national interests of the United States.
That’s because some of Trump’s most loyal supporters have expressed deep concern from the United States fighting another war in the Middle East.
Vance, who served in Iraq while in the Marines, admitted those concerns and said he could relate to Americans who felt that way.
“But the difference is that we had a stupid president at the time, and now we have a president who actually knows how to achieve America’s national security goals,” he explained. “So this is not something that’s been drawn out for a long time. We’ve done the job of retrieving their nuclear program. We’re going to work to dismantle that nuclear program forever for the next few years. That’s what the President is trying to do.”
