Joey Burton handed him a suspended sentence after being found guilty of attacking his wife.
Joey Burton received a 12-week suspended sentence in Westminster Magistrate’s court after being convicted of assaulting his wife in June 2021.
The 42-year-old former soccer player was found guilty of attacking his wife, Georgia Burton, after a night of heavy drinking with two other couples.
According to court proceedings, Mrs. Burton, 38, maintained a mass and bleeding nose on her forehead as a result of an argument.
After the incident, Mrs Burton called police and said her husband “just attacked me.” However, she later submitted a letter to the prosecutor in an attempt to withdraw her claim.
Nevertheless, Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring dismissed Burton’s version of the event as “ambiguous,” and he was eventually found guilty of a single assault of assault after a two-day trial.
Prosecutors also claimed that Mrs Burton was not as drunk as she and her husband proposed. Ms Duon pointed out that her bloody nose was “an actual injury that needs to be explained,” adding that “It was clearly not caused by an accident.”

During the trial, Burton argued with his wife but admitted that he denied the physical altercation. He was found sleeping in their bedroom the night of the incident when officers arrived to arrest him.
At the police station, he remained silent during the questions and provided an interview without comment.
His defense attorney, Simon Kusoka, questioned the timing of the event, suggesting uncertainty about Mrs. Burton was injured before making the exact emergency call.
Addressing the lump on her forehead, he insisted that “there are many circumstances in which the injury could have been accidentally persisted.”
Burton appeared in court wearing a black jacket, jumpers, pants and glasses, and although he did not speak while he was at the dock, he was instructed to stand as the verdict was announced.
Despite their certainty, Burton and his wife remain married and share their two children together.
