Joey Chestnut has returned to Nathan Hot Dog Meal Contest He returned on Friday, after not being qualified last year.
Chestnut beat 70.5 Hot Dogs and Pan in his 17th title in his last 18 events (he lost to Matt Stonie in 2015).

Nathan’s Hot Dog Meal Contest: Joey Chestnut returns to Coney Island as a favorite
Chestnut defeated 30 dogs in the first three minutes. He was on track at a pace to crush the record of 76 dogs and bread in a 10-minute time frame.
He began to slow down, dropping just 11 in the next two minutes, but he had actually already scored a victory. For reference, he ate 58 hot dogs in the first 7.5 minutes of last year. Now it was chasing records.
Fatigue began and he fell short of his record five times. However, it was his best performance at the event since he scored a record in 2021. This is the seventh time that Chestnut has broken the 70 mark.
This was Chestnut’s 20th appearance at the event, marking the highest record ever.
Last year’s champion Patrick Betretti finished with 46.5 dogs and bread.

However, last month, Chestnut announced that he and the organizers had found a common basis in sponsorship.

“I’m excited to go back to eating Nathan’s famous hot dogs at the famous hot dog meal contest in July. This event means the world to me. It’s a precious tradition and a celebration of American Cultureand a large part of my life,” wrote Chestnut in X.
“I continue to partner with a variety of companies, including those in plant-based spaces, but those relationships have not been a conflict with my love for hot dogs.
“I respect the difference in interpretation, but I am grateful that we were able to find a common basis. I am excited to return to Coney Island Stage and do what I am alive and celebrate July 4th with a hot dog in hand!”

Chestnut was clearly an overwhelming favourite to win it all. He set a world record for eating popcorn in May.
