John Duran joins Fenerbahce in 6 months on Al-Nassr

Colombian striker John Duran joined Turkish giant Fennabafe on an in-season loan just six months after a prominent switch to Al Nasr on the Saudi Pro League side, a Saudi loan.

The 21-year-old left Aston Villa in January and moved to Turkey this week after a whirlwind after reporting 77 million euros (£64.5 million) including add-ons.

Duran wrote a five-and-a-half year deal with Al Nassl and is currently set to continue development under Jose Mourinho in Istanbul.

During his short time in Saudi Arabia, Duran scored 12 goals in 18 appearances, and was impressed by Al Nassl’s third place in the 2024-25 season.

Meanwhile, Fenerbafe hopes that the addition of Duran can provide the offensive boost they lack. The club finished Super Rig season as runner-up for the fourth consecutive year, scoring 11 points to arch rival Galata Sarei.

In Mourinho’s first season in charge, the clubs left both the Turkish Cup and the Europa League in the quarterfinals and the 16th stage respectively.

Club officials are optimistic that Duran’s arrival will replicate the impact of last season’s signature on Victor Osimhen’s Galatasarai’s blockbuster loan. The Nigerian forward scored 37 goals during the campaign.

Before moving to Al Nasr, Duran was on the verge of Aston Villa’s Unai Emery starting lineup. Despite limited starting, he only had seven total times, but managed 12 goals in 29 appearances in the first half of the season.

Overall, Duran scored 20 goals in 78 games for the Midlands side, signing in January 2023 from the MLS costume Chicago Fire for up to £17.75 million.

Interest in young forward was strong before the January exit, representing an offer that West Ham was rejected in the summer of 2024. They returned to the winter window with their second bid of £57 million.

At Al Nassle, Duran joined a star-studded team that included Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Manet and Eymerick Laporte. Ronaldo, now 40, recently extended his stay in Riyadh with a new two-year contract with whom he was with the club until he was 42.

There was also a movement behind the scenes of Al Nassr Dugout. Head coach Stefano Pioli set out at the end of the campaign, with speculation linking former Fennerverse boss Jorge Jesus with his return.
