Johnson eases the post-coglu pressure to denounce Southampton for his historic demolition
Southampton suffered the earliest relegation in Premier League history as he was condemned for a drop in a 3-1 defeat at Tottenham.
The Saints endured miserable times on top flights after winning promotions through the Championship playoffs last season.
And they succumbed to the inevitable North London. Brennan Johnson’s braces led the Spurs.
Mateus Fernandes pulled one back for Southampton in the 90th minute, but a 96-minute penalty from Mathys Tel confirmed the Spurs’ points.
This is the result of easing the pressure of increasing on Tottenham boss Angi Postcoglu after a mid-week defeat to Chelsea.
Still, Tottenham’s season is essentially on its fate in the Europa League. They will face Eintrohat Frankfurt in the first leg of the quarterfinals on Thursday.
Southampton became the first team to play in seven games and managed to break the record in the lowest Premier League points total. Derby County was demoted to a record low of 11 in the 2007-08 season.

“We have to avoid that record. We’ll do our best. That can’t happen,” manager Ivan Jurik told Sky Sports after the match.
“We’re thinking about the game now. We’ll see what everyone is thinking, what I think. The fans deserve more, we need to understand all the mistakes we’ve made and create something really strong.”
Postcoglu seeking perfect performance
Spurs had little trouble trying to watch Southampton, but Postecoglou was still not happy with the late show, but knew that he needed a more complete performance against Frankfurt, who is third in Bundesliga.
“We need to make sure we do well in the first half and do it all over the 90,” Postecoglou told BBC Sport.
Johnson’s goal was his first since February, with Post-Coggle adding Welsh International. “He was outstanding and he also got a penalty, and he played in general really well.
“It was important that we were victory today and everyone came (unharmed) on Thursday.”
Brentford 0-0 Chelsea
Chelsea suffered from a set-off in the Champions League football race as Enzo Maresca’s decision to make five changes from the side that beat Tottenham 1-0 three days ago failed to pay dividends.
Talisman Cole Palmer was probably one of those left on the bench, looking at the quarterfinals of the European Conference League Legia Warsaw on Thursday.
It was Brentford who had a better opportunity in the first half.
Brian Mbemo fired him past the correct post and Keene Lewis Potter forced Robert Sanchez into an impressive save. On the other end, Toshin Adalabioyo wasted a great opportunity to give Chelsea the lead before the break.
Nicholas Jackson was brought to start the second half and had an almost rapid impact. Mark Frecken showed great reflexivity to prevent Sep van den Berg from turning Senegal’s forward cross into his own net.
Palmer entered the fight just before the time mark, but Fulken was busy with two goalkeepers afterwards, while Vandenberg and Joane Wissa each approached with the host header.
Chelsea’s Starman had the opportunity to win in the 94th minute, but his efforts from the edge of the area flew around, extending the Blues’ unwinning Reglan to eight games.
If Marska’s men win the Manchester Derby, they’ll be fourth by Manchester City, and Chelsea’s slip-up gives Newcastle United the opportunity to move the level by defeating Leicester City, who was threatened by relegation on Monday.
