Former Vice President Kamala Harris He was criticised by conservatives on social media after making a statement about anti-ice riots in Los Angeles, denounced the Trump administration and calling the unrest “overwhelmingly peaceful.”

“Los Angeles is my home,” Harris Posted on Sunday Riots broke out across the city for several days, with federal agents led by protesters arresting illegal immigrants in the city and urge the Trump administration to send a National Guard.

“Protest is a powerful tool and is essential to the fight for justice, and as the LAPD, mayor and governor pointed out, demonstrations defending immigrant neighbours have been overwhelmingly peaceful,” Harris said. “I continue to support the millions of Americans who are standing up to protect our most fundamental rights and freedoms.”

Harris’ comments were quickly criticized by conservative online and by Trump officials.

Rioters cause chaos when opposing the US government in Los Angeles

The ice attack began Friday with Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass issued a statement in support of illegal immigrants in the city and supporting the Trump administration’s deportation efforts.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom similarly criticised the ice efforts and branded the immigrant raid as “chaotic and reckless.”

“The continuation of a chaotic federal sweep across California to meet any arrest quota is as reckless as they are cruel,” a statement from the governor read. “Donald Trump’s disruption is eroding trust, tearing families apart, and undermining workers and industries that make America’s economy stronger.”

During the riots, ice officers were targeted by violence, including throwing rocks and other projectiles along with vandalism in the form of graffiti calling for violence against ice officers.

US Border Patrol Chief Michael Banks shared a photo of the bloody hands of one border patrol. Federal sources say the agent may have been killed by flying shrapnel, and several officials were reportedly injured during the riot.
