Keyshaun defends against Delos Santos, Mason faces Nakatira: ESPN lightweight double header, June 7th
It is now official that Keyshawn Davis defends the WBO lightweight title against the inactive Edwindero Santos. I live in ESPN Saturday, June 7th, Davis’ hometown, Norfolk, Virginia. In the underwear, Keoon and Kelvin Davis, brothers of Keyshaun, will see the action. This event appears on ESPN and ESPN+ and appears from PT from 10pm (7pm ET).
Inactive challenger
There are several questions as to why Delos Santos (16-2, 14 KOs) was chosen as the challenger to fight in his first belt defense. Delos Santos has three strikes against him:
- Inactive for 2 years = Ringlessty
- Lost his final battle
- Not much known to casual fans
It would be better for fans if Top Rank bites a bullet and uses Andycruz or Raymond Muratara as Keyshaun’s opponent on the June 7th card. If he loses to one of them, at least the top ranks will know what they got from him and dump him in the advantage of the other fighters. What you need the final top rank is a fighter that must be protected with soft matchmaking to keep your head above the water.
Two major battles on the June 7th Davis-de Los Santos card had already been leaked. So today’s Top Rank announcement is simply to make sure that hardcore boxing fans already know.
Mason’s “step up”?
In collaboration, it is lightweight Abdullah Mason (18-0, 16 Kos) Battle Jeremiah Nakatiria (26-4, 21 Kos) 10 rounders. This should be a step up for the 21-year-old Mason, but it’s like the lateral movement from the kind of opposition he faces.
Raymond Muratara and Ernesto Mercado blew the 35-year-old Nakatilia out in the second round. He was also beaten violently by Shakur Stevenson. Nakatila won his final three fights despite his opposition to low-level opposition.
Top Rank appears to be still wary of taking a chance with Mason after seeing him drop twice in November last year by Johan Vasquez. It was a battle that showed that some doubted about Abdullah. He has a chin problem And I can’t take the punch. But the veteran has equal strength with Johan, so put him in with Nakatiglia.
The lightweight candidate offered a fight with Floyd Schofield, a fight with Abdullah, wanted $2.5 million. Mason is neither.
