Kia Electric Pickup Truck: Will it be successful in the US?
According to a press release, Kia expects to sell around 90,000 of these new EV pickups annually. Barely hit 30,000 units have been sold. For most accounts, collision with a vehicle representing KIA’s first attempt to soften the US truck buyer market is an ambitious sales goal. But there is still room for optimism.
“We’re committed to providing independent insights into EV performance,” said Liz Najman, director of Market Insights at Recurrent, a company that provides independent insights into EV performance. “And, like the EV6, there is a high chance that KIA pickup will be made in the US, which will help avoid the costly tariffs that will raise consumer prices. Prices could be a major factor for consumers in the coming years.”
Nyman also said that with trucks being two top-selling vehicles in 2024, KIA could potentially meet sales targets as long as the automaker can reach a sweet spot of competitive pricing and capabilities.
“When you look at the sales of electric vehicles, both the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Jeep Wrangler PHEVs exceeded 50K units in 2024, and of course the Model 3 and Model Y sold 150K+ and 370K+ units,” says Najman. “Electric vehicles sell strong when they provide what their customers want.”
