Latest news on Arsenal’s major injuries following the loss of Arteta ‘Happy’ and Tottenham on Gyokeres debut
Mikel Arteta signed Viktor Gyoker to his first taste of Arsenal action during a preseason clash with Tottenham in Hong Kong.
The Swedish striker was signed to move £64 million just days ago, with Arsenal introduced 1-0 in the 77th minute.
The Spurs took the lead through an incredible finish from Pape Matar Sarr, who lobbed David Raya from the middle line.
Given that Gyoker was officially announced on Saturday and barely trained with his new teammates, Arteta is no surprise to give him a few minutes on the pitch to avoid any concerns of early injuries.
The 26-year-old barely joined the game and registered just two touches, but his manager was pleased with what he saw.
After the defeat, the Arsenal boss said:
“I think they’ll add a lot of value. You’ll see the energy and quality they bring right away.
“It was a short one (their debut), but at least it’s finished now, and when they play against Villarreal, I’m sure it’s not.”
Increase in major injuries
Arteta also provided positive updates on three major Arsenal defenders ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
Gabriel Magalges, Ricardo Carafioli and Julian Timber are all expected to recover in time for the Gunners’ first league fixtures for the season against Manchester United on Sunday, August 17th.
Gabriel appeared in Watford for 45 minutes in a door-friendly victory that closed off Watford earlier this summer, but the club’s pre-season trip to Singapore and Hong Kong was absent due to ground injuries in training.
With Arsenal starting two tour matches, Calafiori kicked out just a moment in the second half against Newcastle before appearing in a match against Tottenham.
Meanwhile, Timber gradually rejoined the full team session after undergoing ankle surgery in May.
Arteta responded when asked if any of his players would miss the start of the season. “I don’t think so.
“If they evolved to what they’ve been involved in the last few days, three will be available.”
