Leeds agrees to a deal for free agent Nmecha

Leeds United have begun recruiting drives ahead of their return to the Premier League by agreeing to a deal with German international Lucas Numeca.

The 26-year-old, who can run anywhere beyond Front 3, will officially join the West Yorkshire Club on July 1 after successfully negotiating terms on his first two-year contract on Elland Road.

Nmecha started in Manchester City and enjoyed loan spells at Preston, Middlesbrough and Anderlecht before joining Wolfsburg in 2021.

He made 73 appearances for the Bundesliga club in the League and Cups, scoring 19 goals.

Joining Leeds is a “big challenge,” says Nmecha.

Nmecha, who won seven caps in Germany, told LUTV:

โ€œI have spoken with managers many times and I am excited to play the style of football they played in the championships, even in the Premier League.

โ€œI found out I had an advantage in terms of ownership and goals last season. I am an offensive player, and obviously that is exciting for me.

โ€œOf course, there are big boys in the Premier League who can’t play that way all the time, but the idea for the manager is to play good football and play football, which is what I’m used to, and what I like.

“I wish I could move on right now, but I’m still in the season a few weeks ago. I’m running! But I can’t wait to start training now.”
