Lexus, Buick Top JD Power’s latest car reliability research, Volkswagen and Chrysler are behind
Lexus is once again surpassing the ranks of JD Power’s latest vehicle reliability survey (VDS), but as vehicles become more and more complicated, the overall car owners are becoming more and more frustrated.
Now in its 36th year, the 2025 JD Power VDS has been in its first three years of ownership, and has included 184 specific problem areas across vehicle categories, including infotainment systems, diver assistance technology, powertrain, interior and exterior features. It covers the following.
Toyota’s (TM) The Lexus brand has earned the highest honor of vehicle reliability for the third year in a row, earning a score of 140 pp100 (problems per 100 units). GM (GM) The Buick brand ranks best in the mass market segment, with 143. Mazda (mzday) 161 came in second place, while Toyota (age 162) came in third place.
In the premium end, Cadillac (169) ranks third with German Porsche (186) and second overall for the winner Lexus (premium brand).
Conversely, Volkswagen (285), Chrysler (282, Jeep (275), VW Audi (273), and Land Rover (270) suffered the most problems, ranking them in the bottom 5. (209) .
JD Power said the 2025 VDS was based on responses from 34,175 owners of the 2022 model year car after three years of ownership. VDS covers issues addressed in the first year of ownership, unlike JD Power’s extensively followed early quality research.
Overall, in addition to software flaws and personal device integration issues (i.e., the connection between iPhone and Android devices), the issue of plug-in hybrid EVs has plagued the owners of the car, which was acquired in 2022. The number of problems has increased over the past year (12 pp100).

The mid-sized car segment was marked by the top-selling Camry with the highest honors, followed by Nissan’s Ultima and Hyundai Sonata. The Chevrolet Corvette scored the highest score in the premium “sporty” car segment.
