LNG exports to promote the addition of gas handling capacity, primarily in North America, by 2030
Natural gas processing in North America is being driven by the confluence of factors such as increased LNG (liquefied natural gas) exports, increased domestic demand, and strategic pivots into clean energy sources. As the region utilizes abundant natural gas reserves to meet the increased LNG demand, a significant increase in LNG liquefaction capacity is expected, particularly from the US and Canada. To meet the expected demand, new liquefaction plants and associated infrastructure have been developed in North America, leading to increased gas throughput.
The US is a major player in the expansion and plans to significantly increase LNG export capacity. Growth requires more gas processing infrastructure to handle the increase in natural gas that is liquefied for export. Prudhoe Bay II is the upcoming gas processing plant, with a significant increase in capacity of 3.9 billion cubic feet (BCFD) per day during the outlook period. Alaska Gasline Development Corp is the operator and stockholder of this planned Sweetening-Type plant, scheduled to operate in 2030.
Canada has an additional 1.3 BCFD capacity by 2030. ARCRESATTICESIE05-20-084-24 002, KOBES Phase 1, and Kobes Phase 2 are some of the major gas processing plants that added significant volumes by 2030.
Mexico accounts for the addition of remaining gas throughput in the region, with Papan expansion, which will account for all of the 150 MMCFD capacity by 2030, is the operator of the planned separation plant with Coastoil Dynamic Sa de CV, with BHD and Nuvoil Sa de CV holding 50% stakes each at the plant.
