Tom Hanks hammered for “disgusting” portrayal of white Trump supporters in SNL skits
“I hated it too and said it on the show. I know. I hated it. I hated it. I didn’t like it. Instead of shaking hands with black people, I put on a magazine hat. “I mean, they have problems and I certainly have problems with them and me, but they’re common. Of course, I have racists in places that are so bad, but in general, all the magazine people I know have no problem shaking hands with black people.”
Maher then appeared to speak to the people behind such portrayals by declaring, “You’re just hysterical and you’re not helping.”
Maher called such a smear of Trump supporters “zombie lies.”
“What I hate is what I call a zombie. Don’t lie to me,” he said. “It’s a lie that people in Maga don’t shake hands – I got it, it’s part of the skit, it’s an exaggeration, it’s comedy. It’s just a bit too sensitive to go there.

One of the rules of comedy is that the comedian himself, Maher, says that a good joke requires an element of observational truth about the world within it.
“But I’m telling you as a liberal, I don’t like it,” he said. “Again, because You lie and make me mad. I’m a comedian. When the premise is not authentic, I can’t go with it – the jokes don’t work. The premise must sound the truth. That premise is not true. It may have sounded with truth, I don’t know, x years ago. That’s not the case now. So, you know – but it’s one of us. Everyone needs to play the hatred card. Because it clicks. That’s what you love. ”
