Mamdani once again criticised Cuomo for “trying to acquire” political points for criticizing his past comments.
“We spend much more time trying to score these kinds of points than we ask ourselves. How can we ensure that New Yorkers are safe?” Mamdani said.
Democrat socialists have secured support from Sens. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders, but New York’s National Democratic leaders, including House minority leaders Hakem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

On Wednesday, Mamdani said she has repeated Governor Kathy Hawtle, who also withheld her support due to the nationwide ban on attack rifles.
“In this moment we gather as New Yorkers and remember the four neighbors who were killed. We respect their memories and respond to the way they lead their lives,” Mamdani said.
