Manchester United announces CUNHA contract on the first day of the summer transfer window in 2025

Manchester United have agreed to a deal to sign Matthews Cunha from the wolves after activating the Brazilian forward’s £62.5 million release clause.

United confirmed the 26-year-old’s contract on the first day of his transfer period this summer. This has been tailored to allow clubs to register players ahead of the newly expanded FIFA Club World Cup that begins June 15th in the US.

Cunha has agreed to a five-year deal with an additional year option at Old Trafford and will join the Brazilian National Side for Carlo Ancelotti’s first responsibilities game after completing medical care at United this weekend.

“Manchester United have reached an agreement on the signatures of Wolverhampton Wanderers and Mattous Cunha,” the club’s statement read.

“Signing a Brazilian forward is subject to visas and registration.

“Everyone at Manchester United looks forward to welcoming Mateus to Old Trafford.”

Cunha was a key target for United as head coach Ruben Amorim is about to rebuild his team following the club’s worst Premier League season in history.

The Brazilian, who scored 33 goals in 92 appearances in 92 two and a half days at Molineux, will be United’s first signing in this year’s two-part transfer window, which will be held from June 1 to June 10, before reopening from June 16 to June 16 and from June 16 to September 10.

United are not participating in the Club World Cup this summer, but the newly adjusted window will apply to each of the 20 national associations with competing clubs involving Manchester City and Chelsea.

An early opening allowed Trent Alexander Arnold to leave Liverpool for Real Madrid after the Premier League champions accepted a fee of 10 million euros (£8.4 million) from the Spanish club to release them from contracts.
