Mangione Defense Requests Details at UnitedHealthCare CEO Murder Trial

In a new court filing, the defense asks federal judges to request the prosecutor to submit information surrounding the claim intended to be proven during the sentence phase of Mangion’s death penalty trial.
The defense alleges that it “lacks naked bones, vague allegations and facts the government is trying to turn to,” including alleged threats to individuals other than the victim and the impact on the victim’s loved ones.”

Mangion’s legal team has alleged that the lack of details prevents them from preparing to protect their clients from claims at the trial’s ruling stage and violates the federal death penalty law.
The document suggests that an “information summary” should be provided for defense from filing October 24th to 90th.
“In this case, the need for sufficient time to conduct such an investigation is particularly serious as the government announced its intention to seek the death penalty even before conducting a mitigation investigation and giving a detailed fact-relief presentation to the Department of Justice,” the document reads.

Mangion is accused Gunfire On December 4th, 2024, United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside the Hilton Hotel in midtown Manhattan, before fleeing to Pennsylvania.
Federal prosecutors allege that Mangion used his homemade ghost gun to shoot Thompson twice in the back, and authorities believe he is ideologically motivated by the words “denial,” “delayed,” and “abdication,” written on ammunition found at the crime scene.
