Memphis Mayor Paul Young fell a day after being promoted Crimes in the cityA man was arrested on suspicion of allegedly trying to lure him.
Trenton Abston, 25, was arrested Wednesday and charged with attempts to lure young people, stalkers and trespass on aggravated crimes. Memphis Police Station (MPD).
Police said in a Facebook announcement that footage from public and private security cameras showed Abston expanding the wall into the mayor’s neighborhood and walking to Young’s home. He was arrested with tasers, gloves, rope and duct tape on the vehicle.

Thanks to prompt responses from MPD officers and security camera footage, Abston was arrested quickly, the department said.
Business owners “weakened leadership” because Blue City is in the most dangerous rank of us.
“We understand the concerns raised by this incident and want to reassure the public that the Memphis Police Department is fully committed to the safety of all residents, including elected officials in our city,” the police department said. “We will take potential threats seriously and continue to act promptly and thoroughly.”
According to Shelby County, Tennessee Jail records, Abston remained behind the bar as of Friday, and his bond has yet to be evaluated. It is unclear whether he has an attorney and could not be reached for comment from the Shelby County Public Defence Counsel Office.
The suspect was arrested to protect the city after Young took him to X and commented by sports analyst Stephen A. Smith.

“The people of Memphis, it’s a great sports town, great fans, great people – but there are elements that cats like Jimmy Butler don’t feel are the safest environment,” Smith said Tuesday in ESPN’s “First Take.”
“I’m talking to local governments in Memphis. It’s amazing to NBA players, so you need to clean up something like that. They talked about it. I know. They told me. That’s all I’m saying.”
The comment sparked backlash from Memphis Grizzlies stars Ja Morant and Young.
“Talkin Bout The Grizz was posted to X with the source of Final (laughing emoji) (cap emoji) Ahh.”

Young has also heavier than X.
“Steven called us a great sports town — the fact,” he said. “The best fans of the sport? The truth. People in Memphis? Unparalleled.”
“But what he lacks is that crime has been significantly reduced in 2024 and 2025. We’re not just talking about change, we’re telling it. Memphis is rising and there are numbers and hearts to prove it.”

He also thanked Memphian and Morant for confronting the city and invited Smith to come to Memphis.
Young’s office and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately return a request for comment.
MPD said security footage cannot be released.
