Missing MLS All-Star Game from Messi, but is set to avoid suspension
Lionel Messi has been removed from tonight’s MLS All-Star Game against Austin’s La Liga MX Select XI, but is set to escape the suspension.
Messi and his Intermiami teammate Jordi Alba were voted for the roster, with the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner scheduled to make his debut in fixtures.
But he now doesn’t usually play in pull-outs with a one-game ban by major league soccer.
Neither Messi nor Alba suggest that Miami had to deal with his busy schedule due to his participation in the Club World Cup.
The Argentine superstar, despite being 38, played every minute in 22 games of the Florida side’s final 23 matches in all competitions.
Despite that workload, he maintains his usual noble standards, scoring at least two goals in six of Miami’s final seven MLS games.
It was the second consecutive year he had to pull out. In 2024, he suffered an ankle injury in the Copa America final and continued to dodge him for several weeks.
Alba came on last year, but is sitting this game after starting six of Miami’s six final seven games.
Messi and Alba could play when Miami hosts FC Cinnati on Saturday.
