MLB News: Mets’ Francisco Lindor says it would be a “great honor” to be nominated as captain

New York Mets Retiring David Wright’s No. 5 earlier this month, star Shortstop Francisco Lindor had the front row seating for the ceremony.
Lindor, 31, said it was “very cool” to see Wright numbers retired. The five-time All-Star spoke to Fox News Digital about Wright’s special day.
“It was so cool. I’ve been here for five years and I’ve had the opportunity to see Keith Hernandez, Doc, Strawberry and now David Wright numbers retire. Lindor said Fox News Digital is ahead of Miracle Treat Day at DQ last week.

“It was special to meet him. I was seeing how much he got into this franchise and how the fans returned him.”
Lindor was a logical choice to become the Mets’ next captain, and Wright praised the star shortstop before the Jersey retirement ceremony.
“I love Francisco Lindor,” Wright said. Via Sports Illustrated. “I’ve known him over the last few years. I recently learned that he was injured by a hand injury at the end of the season. No one knew that.

Lindor said he would not underestimate it if he was nominated as the fifth captain in Mets’ history.
“I wouldn’t take it for granted (what is the captain?) and I wouldn’t underestimate it, that would be a great honor,” Lindor said.

“It’s an honor and a privilege. I’m not going to change the way I do it. I’m going to be doing the same thing and I’ll continue to walk the path they set up.
The 31-year-old star’s shortstop is once again having another strong season for the Mets. Lindor has a batting average of .251 with outstanding defensiveness on 20 home runs, 59 RBIs and 17 stolen bases.
Keith Hernandez, Gary Carter, John Franco and Wright are currently the only four players to be named captains in the history of the franchise.
