Monarch Money Review 2025: Best Budget Apps for Couples
Managing your money can be difficult enough, but managing your money as a couple can be especially difficult. Fortunately, Budget app You can make things easier. Monarch Money is designed for co-budget personnel and has features like shared goal tracking and monthly reporting to help you stay on the same page.
The app has received great reviews with Apple and Android users, with 4.9 stars out of 5 on the App Store and 4.7 stars on Google Play. I tested these scores to see if they were guaranteed and was impressed. This is what I liked about the monarch’s money – and hated.

How does Monarch money work?
Join Monarch Money and you will provide details on bank accounts, credit cards, investments, loans, and other asset types, such as cryptocurrency, real estate, and art. If you are a homeowner, you can also use Zillow’s Zestimate feature to add property values to help you calculate your net worth.
Bank information was synchronized using plaid. If you have the challenge of connecting your app to a financial institution, you can use MX, finicity or add details manually.
The monarch provides estimates of income and regular costs through a transaction of approximately two years. It’s not exactly science, but I found it useful. It provided a visual breakdown of how much your income has faded and flowed.
Each time you complete a new transaction, Monarch will automatically assign it to a category or ask you to label it if you don’t know the merchant.
One feature I found most valuable is the savings rate tool, which shows how much you save each month. Most financial experts recommend it Somewhere in the 10% to 15% rangeit’s an easy way to see how you’re doing.
How many people lost track Subscription Because you pay regularly, Monarch will automatically search for seller fees and display them in the calendar view. It’s an easy way to find the invoice you want to cancel.
You must pay to use the monarch. The monthly tab is $14.99, but you can earn savings by signing up for the $99.99 annual plan.
There is no free version, but there is a 7-day trial period to try it out. My testing period with Monarch made me feel like the service was expensive.
What we like
- Intuitive: When you first start using Monarch, your app will sift through transaction history for the past two years and develop a budget framework. It’s by no means accurate, but I had to tweak the app’s initial recommendations based on my irregular income as a freelancer, and that’s a great starting point.
- Designed with couples in mind: Monarch allows you to sync multiple bank accounts with your partner. You will also see a monthly email report that will help you discuss your progress towards specific savings goals. Since Money can be a troublesome conversationI’m a huge fan of this feature.
- Investment Tracker: Monarch Money’s built-in investment tracking tool provides a comprehensive look at how your investments work. If you have selected your own inventory, the simplest way is to view the trendlines without opening another app. I actually found that Monarch Money’s views provide better photos than my self-directed chase app.
- Cryptocurrency options: Monarch is one of the few budget apps that sync with several crypto exchanges, i.e. Coinbase. (However, for me, this also belongs to the consection. Gemini – the exchange I hold a small amount of cipher – is not currently supported.)
Things we didn’t like
- Limited exam period: Seven days are relatively short windows to learn if a budgeting app is right for you. If you’re not sure if it’s worth firing for a year, start with a monthly subscription.
- Fee: Price tags – $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year – may feel like a pretty chunk of cash you pay to value your money. There are other Popular budget apps The fee is low.
- Synchronization of the problem: I received an alert regarding the possibility of an error with multiple chase accounts before connecting my check account with my savings account. I haven’t had any major challenges, but it tells me that many other people need help with what should be a seamless process.
Is the monarch safe?
Monarch Money uses bank-level security. This means that app encryption and data standards are as secure as real banks. You can also turn on multifactor authentication for an extra layer of security.
Furthermore, the company does not sell data to third parties. This is an important selling point for me. I don’t want my budgeting app to benefit from my data to promote credit cards and other financial services.
Who is Monarch Money best for?
If you are overwhelmed by the idea of building a budget, monarch money is a great choice. Instead of having to sit and see your own information yourself, Monarch’s algorithms can be tweaked in the right direction by scrutinizing your transaction history and identifying spending and storage patterns. But to be clear, it doesn’t do everything for you. You need to spend some time finding gaps and errors in Monarch’s mathematics.
This app is a particularly good option for couples, with monthly reporting capabilities and sharing goal tracking. While it doesn’t stand out completely from other budget apps as many people offer free access to multiple users, Monarch labels itself as an option for couples. So, when it comes to managing joint finances, I hope more features will be deployed to help happy couples stay happy.
Alternatives to the Monarch Money app
There are many more Budget app Test-driven value. I also recommend checking out Rocket Money. This app brings one notable difference to one difference. Rocket Money works to negotiate or cancel a portion of a repeat invoice. However, if you ask Rocket Money to handle these liabilities, the company will cut your savings.
