Why did Morn Morquel go home?
According to multiple reports, Morquel returned to South Africa after his father died. This happened a few days before the opening match against Bangladesh on February 17th and February 20th.
Morkel joined the Indian team on February 15th to attend a practice session at the ICC Academy, but on February 17th he missed the team’s training, raising concerns about his absence. The news that his father had passed away cast a shadow on the team’s tournament preparations.
Morkel’s departure is considered a major blow as Indian teams prepare for their campaign at the Champions Trophy. It remains unclear whether he will return to join the team during the tournament. The team is currently scheduled to take a break before resuming training on February 19th, one day before their first match.
