Mourinho rejects his retirement plan and insists that he still has “a lot to do”

Jose Mourinho dismissed the idea of retirement and claimed he was still motivated by winning football games.

The Portuguese is now 62 years old and has been dealing with the stress and tensions of frontline management for a quarter of a century.

Mourinho has been with Fennelverse since June 2024, leading him to a second-place finish at Super Rig despite being 11 points behind arch rival Galata Salei.

And former Porto, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Interbos claim he still has plenty of fire in his belly.

He told Canal 11 in Portugal:

“I have the best family a coach can have. They keep motivated me, I believe I’m far ahead of me and I have a lot to do.”

Mourinho has been reclassified in recent years, from innovators to those behind the times compared to Pep Guardiola and Arne Slots.

And he admits that over the years nothing has changed regarding pre-season preparations.

He added: “There’s no difference between Mourinho, which started about 20 years ago and Mourinho today. How to prepare for the season, training sessions, training experiences, and attempts to relate to the people I work with cannot see the difference.

“I think it’s very difficult to succeed without empathy. I’m always grateful when I’m called a great communicator, but being just a great communicator doesn’t bring you a championship and I won 26.”

But one thing that he feels changed is the barometer that measures success.

He said: “Now you are considered the best by creating the highest recognition.

“How did you get important work in the past? By winning. What’s it like now? It’s more important than winning that only awareness seems to win. Things have changed radically.”
