Nvidia CEO urges Trump to change rules for AI chip export



nvidia Corp.’s CEO Jensen Huang said he hopes the Trump administration will change regulations for exporting from the US to other worlds so that American companies can better take advantage of future opportunities.

“We need to accelerate the spread of American AI technology around the world,” Huang said in a brief meeting with the media. “The policies and encouragement from the administration need to really support that.”

Nvidia sells major AI chips to train artificial intelligence models, including Openai, but is banned from selling the highest-priced products to its Chinese customers. The Biden administration sketched additional policies on AI spreading and restricted the sale of AI technology to countries around the world based on three qualifications.

“We don’t know what the new spreading rules will be, but whatever that may be, we really have to realize that the world has changed radically since the previous spreading rules were released,” Huang said.

He also warned that China is growing into a terrifying rival of technology, and he chose to Huawei Technologies Co. is a Chinese telecommunications giant that has expanded to design its own AI chips.

“China is not behind,” he said. “Are they in front of us? China is right behind us. We are very, very close.”

Fans made comments during their trip to Washington, including appearing at the Hill and Valley Forum, a gathering of technology leaders and US lawmakers.

When asked about Trump’s tariffs, Jensen said, “There should always be a policy that enables, supports and accelerates the production capacity of land-based products.”

Nvidia depends on production partners Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. started making several chips in Arizona. The company has long been manufacturing Nvidia’s most advanced products in Taiwan.

“Wilpower and our country’s resources make us a shore,” Han said.
