Of course they’re worried, we were spectacular last season and they won nothing

Gabi says it’s understandable that Real Madrid felt the need to strengthen this summer, given the magnitude of Barcelona’s advantage last season.

Barca defeated Madrid in all four Classico conferences, including the Copa del Rey and the Supercopa finals, scoring 16 goals in the process.

The Catalans ended with domestic doubles Madrid was left empty-handed for the first time in four years.

Real Madrid is busy filling the gap to Barcelona

The Los Blancos have made a positive move to tilt the scale so that manager Carlo Ancelotti will be replaced by Zabi Alonso to leave the Brazilian national team.

They also signed Trent Alexander Arnold, Dean Huizen and Alvaro Carreras, and highly acclaimed teenager Franco Mustantouno will arrive from the river board in mid-August.

Gavi said: “Of course they’re worried. It was four out of four (last season) and that never happened in history. It’s logical that they’re worried.

“Finally, last season we were spectacular and they won nothing. This summer they strengthened together with very good players – that’s the truth – but we see what they’re doing this season.

“They have a great team, but we have to be us.”

Gabi makes Yamaru and Doro shine

Ramin Yamal will once again become important to Barka. The Spanish winger has been mixed with summers that saw him sign a new six-year deal at Camp Nou, although he hit the headlines for offfield activities.

Despite being only 18 years old, Yamal is one of his favourites to land Barondoor for his club and national achievements.

“I hope he wins,” Gavi added. “If he doesn’t do that this year, he’s 18 and very young. Being among his favorites is already unique. I’m happy that he’s doing it with us.

“He’s an incredible player. He gets better every day. He’s amazing in training. He has to continue that way. With that mentality, if he doesn’t win the Baron de or this year, he’ll have many wins in the future.”

Gavi was impressed by the shock of DRO

Yamal will be able to join another exciting teenager from the Barca team this season with Pedro Fernandez, known as Doro.

Gavi added: “Doro is a real talent and an incredible person. He’s a very good boy.

“He gives him lots of advice as he is ultimately my protégé (at La Masia). I’m always trying to help him all. I hope he continues like this and with the mentality he has, he gives everything in training.

“It’s important because the coach sees it and then decides. If he continues like this, everything will go well.”
