OMV Petrom discovers a new natural gas reservoir in Spineni, Romania
Romania-based OMV Petrom has discovered a new natural gas reservoir in Spineni, and has made significant developments in the energy sector in southeastern Europe.
Located approximately 70 km northeast of the southwest city of Cleioba, the discovery took place in one Spineni exploration well and was drilled to a depth of 4,800m.
The exploration wells were tested for the presence of natural gas and condensate and were produced to support the findings.
Well tests have shown the possibility of producing 180,000 m³ of natural gas and 25 m³ of condensate per day.
This translates from the Discovery Well to the equivalent of 1,300 barrels of oil per day, indicating a substantial addition to the region’s energy resources.
Cristian Hubati, board member of OMV Petrom Exploration & Production, said:
“We continue to invest in seclusion of the natural decline in production from mature sectors and pursuing new near-range opportunities in close proximity to existing businesses.”
Leads were initially identified using data from the 3D Spineni earthquake survey conducted in 2022 within the X Craiova block.
The test phase established the commercial viability of the discovery and allowed the reservoir to be utilized for approval of the development plan.
During the research phase of this onshore project, OMV Petrom invested approximately 15 million euros ($17.6 million).
The discovery of this new natural gas reservoir is poised to make a significant contribution to the local and regional energy supply.
OMV Petrom and Romgaz began in March Excavation in the Neptin Deep Projectit is claimed to be the largest natural gas project in Romania’s Black Sea and the country’s first deep water offshore project.
