Over 100 red-bellied black snakes found in Sydney’s backyard
Kelewaro said that when a woman’s red-bellied black snake is ready to give birth, she often gathers in small groups to protect her from predators.
The Australian Museum says on its website that it is the only genus snake that gives birth to them.
This species is considered to be shy and the bite is not swollen, but can cause swelling, nausea and diarrhea.
Snake catchers are required by law to release the animal near where they were found. However, given the magnitude of this discovery, catchers are given permission to release snakes into national parks away from human interaction.
