Pedro Neto pays homage to his former wolf teammate before Chelsea’s match
Pedro Neto paid tribute to his former teammate Dio Gojota in a one-minute silence before the match against Palmeiras at Chelsea’s Club World Cup.
The match in the US took place about 48 hours after Jota and his brother Andre tragically died in a car accident in northern Spain.
Neto played alongside Jota for the Portuguese national team, and was also a wolf teammate, and the pair were considered close friends from the pitch.
So before his semi-final victory in Philadelphia, Neto hugged a Chelsea shirt with “Diogo” and “Andre.”
Enzo Maresca said he couldn’t put pressure on the winger to play in the game after being excused from Thursday’s training session before his 2-1 victory.

However, the 25-year-old was selected from the start and played 87 minutes ago in place of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
“Pedro is very sad, perhaps more than sad,” Maresca told reporters before kickoff. “But we’re approaching Pedro to support him in this moment. It’s entirely Pedro’s decision (if he wants to play). I chatted with him this morning, and we’ll support him.
“In any case, we will support him. Whether he is on the pitch tomorrow or not, we will support him.
“It’s a very sad day and I’m struggling to find the words. It’s very difficult. The feeling that you have is helpless in this situation.
Neto posted to X after the game: “Tonight I carried more than a jersey. For Diogo. For Andre.
Tonight I had more than just a jersey. For Diogo. For Andre. Every time we share. My brother, please rest easily. 🕊🕊️❤️ #fifacwc pic.twitter.com/tqcae1c5vk

He and Andre’s funerals will take place on Saturday, and his and Andre’s funerals will be held, with tributes poured for Jota after his tragic death.
Many former Jota teammates, including Liverpool and Portuguese players and managers, are jumping in for the service.
