Pennsylvania’s body of Airman was identified 80 years after the crash in Burma

Nearly 80 years have passed since he disappeared in the crash of a WWII plane through Burma. Pennsylvania Airman It was identified, paving the way for the much-anticipated burial of the hero at Arlington National Cemetery.
Summer of 1943 US military Henry J. Carlin, fifth of 27-year-old Henry J. Carlin from Philadelphia, was among six crew members on a B-25C “Mitchell” bomber that had fallen during a low-altitude raid at Maithira, Burma.
Carlin’s body and the other three bodies on the ship were not recovered after the war and were declared Missing during operation.

The other two surviving crews were captured Japanese Armyaccording to the report. It is unknown if they returned home.
The ruins of Four Heroes were buried in a common tomb near Kyunpobin, Burma, and were later recovered in 1947 by the American Tomb Registration Service, without identification.
Witnesses only describe them as coming from “American crashes,” complicating the identification process.

A special memorabilia of the World War II hero will finally return to his family in 80 years
Body listed as “unknown” in Honolulu National Memorial Cemetery Of the Pacific, it was unearthed in 2022 after the Department of Defense approved a request for intervention from the Defence Pow/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA).
To identify Carlin’s body, DPAA scientists used dental, anthropology and radio isotope analysis. The military’s medical inspector system also used mitochondrial DNA analysis to create a positive ID confirmed on April 16th.
Carlin’s body, closed in a generational mystery, will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery in May 2026.

The correct gravestone of Jewish war heroes buried in Italy changed in 80 years
According to the DPAA, Carlin’s name is recorded on the missing walls of Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, a committee of the American Battle Monuments Committee in the Philippines. A rosette is placed next to his name to show that he is being described.

Carlin served as a navigator and was a member of the 22nd Bomb Squadron (Medium), 341st Bomb Group (Medium), and 10th Air Force.
