Previous CBS anchors fear that networks will lose independence after media merger

Former CBS anchor Connie Chung warned CNN on Friday Recent Mergers Between Paramount Global and Skydance media, it could be the “end” of journalism, as she once knew it.

The FCC approved a $8 billion merger between the two companies on Thursday and is expected to close on August 7th. This came after several controversies involving Paramount-owned CBS, such as a litigation settlement with President Donald Trump. “60 Minutes” segment Cancel “Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”

Based on the newly formed company Paramount Skydance Corp., the original “CBS Evening News” anchor suggested that the networks she is part of could lose all its independence.

“I’m afraid of the end of CBS, who knew that,” Chung said on “CNN News Central.” “CBS has always been an independent network. It was autonomous. The news department was autonomous, not always intrusive by pressure from politicians, including the president, and not encompassed by bean counters.

She continued, “Honest, fair and factual journalism is tainted, and those who practiced journalism like Edward R. Murrow and Walter Cronkite have lost their kind of journalism. I fear that CBS president, first journalist and fourth journalist who defended the rights of journalism, were president of Frank Stanton, who was the fourth journalist.

Chung has made Paramount’s controlling shareholder Shari Redstone and Skydance Media CEO David Ellison more responsible for “polluting journalism” with “Greed.” She also called for the company’s pledge not to implement new DEI initiatives as a shaming of her and other women and minorities on CBS.

Several journalists have denounced CBS and mostly prevented Trump from acquiescence prior to the merger through settlements and cancellations, including Chung.

“It’s hard to believe what they claim: the ’60-minute’ agreement had nothing to do with the merger, or the settlement had nothing to do with the merger. Also, the disappearance of Steve (sic) Colbert had nothing to do with it.

Paramount is facing a fierce backlash for its recent decision. Some of our own employees.

Veteran “60 Minutes” producer Roma Hartman said Fox News Digital Earlier this month, he thought the company’s settlement with Trump was a “coopathic surrender by Paramount’s corporate leaders” and a “basic betrayal” by CBS News.
