Proton releases new apps for two-factor authentication

Privacy-focused productivity tool company Proton has released it New Authenticator App Today, users are allowed to log in to services using dynamically generated two-element code.

Starting today, free apps are available on all platforms, including iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, Linux and more. This app allows you to sync code and accounts across devices. The company said, like its other products, Proton Authenticator is open source and uses end-to-end encryption to protect user data.

Users can easily import login codes from other authentication apps, the company said. Additionally, the app automatically backs up your code and works without having to connect to the internet.

“Two-factor authentication is essential for everyone, not just for privacy concerns. Proton authentication is built for those who want a secure, transparent and convenient way to protect their accounts.”

“We believe strong security should not be at the expense of your convenience or privacy. That’s why we’ve developed a Proton authentication machine to reassure the mind that users can use the 2FA code wherever they need it, without relying on Google or Microsoft. It’s a way for users to access their online accounts as well as having a strong control over their data.

Two-factor authentication using the app provides users with an additional layer of security to prevent attackers from taking over their account. SMS-based two-factor authentication is another option, but is often vulnerable to SIM swapping attacks that allow attackers to intercept calls and messages.

Protons release products. The company launched earlier this week Privacy-centric AI chatbot named Lumodoes not keep a record of conversations or train models using user data.
