Purcellville, Virginia reverses decision to disband police station
Amidst the repulsion from residents, Virginia town Reports say they voted Tuesday to keep police in Purcellville, a week after trying to save more than $3 million.
The town of Purcellville in Loudoun County, Virginia, found about $50 million in red following the construction of a major wastewater treatment facility. The council tried to tighten the town’s budget by disbanding local police stations and relying on law enforcement to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

Speaking in public comments, residents said they didn’t want to remove the police station and save water bills, and criticised the council’s vote two weeks ago without public commenting on that particular allegation. FOX 5 DC.

“You four of you have taken away items from the agenda at the end of the meeting and stripped me of my legal right to comment on them,” one resident said. ABC7 Report.
Sheriff Mike Chapman of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement before the meeting, saying the town council and managers had not discussed the plans and that the transition would not occur two months later.
The vote came amid a criminal investigation into Deputy Mayor Ben Nett for potential violations of Virginia’s Interest Contradiction Act. FOX 5 DC. The net was absent from the meeting on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, the council has also fired fire on other issues. This included former mayor Kwasi Fraser as town manager and without interviewing candidates applied to 82 candidates.

Purcellville Council member Erin Raynor said there have been many actions that she felt suspicious since the new council took office earlier this year.
“I’m happy that it’s not just me and my fellow colleagues who are watching this behavior and seeing what’s going on and looking into it,” Rayner said.
