Rasmus hojlund ‘more’ more ready’ to strengthen competition at Manchester United
If Manchester United brings in another striker this summer, saying he’s “ready” then Rasmus Hozilund will enjoy the challenge.
Hojlund struggled to meet expectations following a £64 million move from Atalanta in July 2023, scoring just 26 goals in 95 games in all competitions.
And with United finishing 15th in the Premier League last season, the focus is on trying to sharpen boss Reuben Amorim’s offensive options.
Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have arrived, but there was speculation that United have begun a meeting with RB Leipzig for striker Benjamin Sesco. Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa is also mentioned as a potential target.
Hozilund scored with star and Bournemouth
Hojlund played like a man with points to prove in Last night’s 4-1 victory over Bournemouthnetting the opening goal with a neat header and continuing what was an encouraging preseason for both him and his team with energetic displays.
He then outlined his resolve to search for media packs at Soldier Field in Chicago and to achieve success in his time at United.
He told BBC Sports:
“Competition is fine for me. It makes me sharp. I’m ready. I feel sharp, so I’m welcome to everything that comes.”
Hojlund arrived at Old Trafford with a reputation that blossomed as one of Europe’s best young forwards two years ago and quickly entered the team.
Hindsight believes that Denmark International could have spent more time adjusting to British life.
“When I came, (Anthony) Marshall was there too, but he had a lot of injuries so I obviously had to take a lot of game time,” he added.
“You shouldn’t say I shouldn’t play because I want to play all the games. But obviously, it could have been done with some help, especially in the beginning, in terms of sharing a little bit of the game.”
I’m still very young – Hojlund
Hojlund was also keen to point out that he is still a young man learning his skills and is confident that he is on the horizon when he is confident.
“I’m still very young,” he said. “People sometimes forget that.
“I’m only 22. Not all strikers have scored 100 goals by that age.
“But I’ve learned a lot. I think you can see it in my game. I’m starting to grow and start to get better at the basics.
“Last season was tough for all of us. I should have done better, everyone knows.
“But it’s also about the team. We’ll be better now. We’re going to progress the right way and look forward to what’s coming.”
