Real Madrid 3-2 Borussia Dortmund


Real Madrid held back the late Borussia Dortmund’s comeback to secure a dramatic 3-2 victory in a pulsating encounter at the Club World Cup.

The goals of Gonzalo Garcia, Fran Garcia and Killian Mbappe were sufficient for the hosts, with strikes from Maximilian Beyer and Serjo Guilacy despite a delayed visitor revival.

The game was from Madrid from the start, with both sides showing their intentions to attack. Dortmund threatened early through Julian Blunt and Serhou Guilasy, but the first one to attack was Real Madrid.

In the 10th minute, young forward Gonzalo Garcia opened the score to the bottom corner with a composed finish after a well-fitting cross from Aldagler.

Just ten minutes later, Frangarcia doubled Madrid’s lead, attacking a loose ball in the box and shooting the house with his left foot.

The 2-0 cushion gave the Xabi Alonso aspect more confidence and controlled ownership of the big spells in the first half. Vinicius junior and Jude Bellingham both approached extending the lead before the interval, but Dortmund was primarily limited to long distance efforts.

On the break, Dortmund introduced Maximilian Beyer, Felix Nmeka and Jan Koot in the hopes of causing a comeback by making some tactical changes.

Bie, in particular, had an immediate impact, forcing a save from Thibaut Courtwa early in the second half. However, Madrid remained dangerous at the counter, with both Luka Modric and Killian Mbappe, introduced in the 67th minute, testing Gregor Kobel in Sting’s efforts.

The drama really started at a stoppage time. At 90 minutes, Dortmund’s persistence was finally rewarded as it fired past Courtois and gave visitors a lifeline.

But their hopes were almost immediately shattered. Just a minute later, Arda Guler delivered a great cross latched by Mbappe, and hit a great bike kick in the bottom corner.

Still, there was another twist in the match. In the 96th minute, alternative Dean Huissen was shown a straight red card for Guirassy’s foul in the box, and admitted a penalty in the process.

The Dortmund striker stepped up and sent a spot kick to the top left corner, making it 3-2, setting up a frenzy set up for a few minutes.

With Madrid down to 10, Dortmund moved forward in search of an equalizer. Marcel Savitzer had the opportunity to increase his time, but Kourtwa proved to be a difference once again, threw low to the left to keep the midfielder’s efforts out and maintain his victory.
