Real Madrid v Al Hilal: lineup, statistics, preview
Real Madrid will enter a new era tomorrow when Xabi Alonso will be in charge of their first team.
The former Madrid midfielder replaced Carlo Ancelotti at the end of the season and has already begun to push his mark to the side. Dean Huyssen and Trent Alexander Arnold will join from Bournemouth and Liverpool respectively, while River Plate teenager Franco Mustantouno will move to the Santiago Bernabeu after the Club World Cup.
Madrid felt that he was sometimes physically overmatched last season. In particular, against Old Fords Barcelona, who won Laliga, Copa del Rey and Super Copa – it is expected that another midfielder will be replacing Luca Modric, who will arrive and depart.
In the meantime, Alonso has to deal with the pressure to lead Madrid to major tournaments with minimal time. He guides his ideas and knows that the initial impressions will be counted both in the dressing room and in the media.
It’s not easy, but he’s either awake or he’s trying.
On his arrival in the US, he said: “It was very positive. You’re getting to know the (player) little by little, and it’s very necessary. And more players are arriving.
“There’s little time to get to know each other, so it’s all full of excitement. We’re arriving today and starting to build a team. We have three training sessions before (Al-Hilal) match and we’re excited to be here, have a good tournament and get to the end.”
