Reddit User Details Chaos at Costco Food Court First Day: “I want to stop”

When it comes to the service industry, there may be no busier places than Costco. Food court.
A recent post from one Reddit user reminded him of his first day and how he wanted to quit.
Reddit user “ok-development4027” shared his experiences on a page dedicated to conversations about Costco.

“I wanted to quit on my first day at Costco Food Court,” he quickly cited a post that received over 1,000 comments and counted.
The 21-year-old employee said he attended an orientation called “Smoothed (Ly)” the day before his shift on Friday.

When it was time to work his first shift from 11am to 7:30pm, he admitted that he thought an eight-hour schedule, including a 30-minute break, “I had already had a lot of my first day, but I’ve brushed it off.”
He soon realized that he would “ride” once he started.
Costco will bring back fan favorite combo pizzas in Calzone format.
A new food court employee said the customer flow was “steady from the morning, but then later on the day that got worse.”
He said he didn’t know what his role was.
By 6pm or 7pm he said “I wanted to leave” because “it wasn’t busy.”
He compared himself to “zoo animals where all customers inside are being monitored, as they try to move as quickly as possible.”

“Nottheless, it was very overwhelming for my first day (there’s) and that might be it.”
The commenter was almost encouraging and told him that things got better and that they would stick to it.

“Work can often be overwhelming for the first few days,” one wrote. “Do your best you can and by next week you will become a professional. You’ve got this.”
“Some jobs are not for anyone.”
“Remember, everyone there, especially the employment manager, wants you to make it and become a superstar,” another user said.
However, other users said it’s okay to stop.

“I agree, but if you don’t like it in three weeks, give me a notification and find something that works,” one person wrote.
“And some of the jobs aren’t for everyone,” another commenter said. “If this guy wants to find a new job, it’s absolutely fine.”

One commenter who once claimed to have worked as a manager at Costco Food Court was not surprised by the employee’s story.
“We hired three people at once,” the person wrote. “By the end of the first week, there was always (who) quit.”

“It just felt like it would never end,” an employee wrote in the update revealed in the comments a few days later that this was his “first intense.” Food service work,“But he ultimately felt he would work more comfortably behind the counter.
