Report, results and goals as Lioness retain title at Euro 2025

Chloe Kelly won the winning penalty as England defeated the World Champions Spain in a shootout to defend the title at Euro 2025.

The Champions in their hometown soil in 2022 were the underdogs in the final against the Spanish side, who defeated them in the 2023 World Cup final in Australia.

The unconvincing route to the final did little to dispel the notion that they would appear second against Spain.

However, Alesia Russo was equal in the 57th minute and after Britain continued to leave Spain with an extra time, it was them who remained calm in the shootout despite Beth Mead missing his first spot kick after the relapse.

England would have gotten off to a strong start and would have taken an early lead without Kata Kol. Kata Kol produced a great diving save to reject Alesia Russo from a close angle after being played on the right channel by Lucy Bronze.

England continued to dominate after leveling, and Kelly nearly completed the turnaround while firing goals at the end of a neat move. The excellent Katakol was on par with her efforts, but she turned it backwards of the post.

Spain introduced Claudia Pina at the pace of Alexia Peteras, and she quickly approached the shock, and the drive near her post was turned over by Hampton.

They were unable to do so and their failures proved to be important in the end.

Patri Guillaro put Spain ahead, but after Alex Greenwood found the net, Hampton flew to her left and blocked Caldenti. She then beautifully saved her from Bonmaty after a confident penalty from Niam Charles, and Leah Williamson saw her spot kick being saved, but Parallelo’s Miss Tee tees Kelly and etches her name into British history once again.
