Benfica defeated the German champions to the top spot in Group C at the Club World Cup through Andreas Scheldelup’s early strike at Charlotte.

Benfica finished the top points for Bayern and faced runner-ups from Group D, including Flamengo, Chelsea, Esperance and LAFC in the final 16, when the Die Roten team met the table toppers in that section.
