Reports, results, and goals when Les Bleus came in third in the Nations League

France took third in the international league with a 2-0 victory over Germany in Stuttgart thanks to a first half strike from Killian Mbappe and a late goal from Michael Ollies.

Despite a promising start from the hosts, the quality of France in front of the goal proved to be a difference on both sides.

The opening stage belongs to Germany, and Germany has created a great opportunity for just two minutes. Niklas Fullkrag got the ball to play for Nick Urtemaid, but his low effort was well saved by Mike Maignan.

It was an early warning for France, and Meignan was quickly re-acted again, denying both Karim Adeeemi and Pascal Gross as the host controlled early ownership.

Controversy broke out shortly after the 30-minute mark when Germany was first awarded a penalty for Adeemi’s foul. However, following a lengthy VAR review, the decision was reversed and Adeyemi was reserved for simulation.

That sense of injustice got worse just a few minutes later when Florian Wiltz hit the post from close range.

France offered little of the half in attacks, but it dealt a devastating blow just before the break. Aurelien Tchouameni floated a pinpoint pass over Mbappe. Mbappe skillfully controlled the left before digging the shot past Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.

The Barcelona goalkeeper reached out to it but was unable to prevent the ball from hiding in the far corner.

In the second half, Julian Nagelsmann’s side huffed and bulged, but struggled to replicate his first half performance.

A drama moment unfolds in the 54th minute when Dennis Umv finds the net after confiscated Adrian Rabiot, but Var once again intervenes to rule out the equalizer.

France has become stronger as the match goes up, and is increasingly threatening at the counter. Mbappe is a constant threat, and he was close to doubling his tally with a stunning volley and another breakaway chance.

Ultimately, French pressure said. In the 84th minute, Mbappe again played a clear race at the counter. This time, he was selfishly squared for alternative olise who tapped the house into an empty net to seal the victory.
