Research finds high levels of eternal chemicals in beer in contaminated water

Recent research has shown this Several beers have been brewed In the US, there are high levels of “eternal chemicals” that are believed to exceed permitted EPA limits.

The ACS Environmental Science and Technology team conducted research to investigate how polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAs) or “eternal chemicals” enter beer and how they are contained.

“As a beer drinker myself, I have wondered whether PFAs in water supply are in our pints. I hope these findings will inspire water treatment strategies and policies that will help reduce the likelihood of PFA in future pours.”

Alcohol deaths have more than doubled in recent years, especially among women.

The brewery has water filtration and treatment systems, but these are not designed to prevent PFA from entering the batch.

By changing EPA Test A tool for analyzing PFA levels in drinking water, Redmon and her team tested 23 beers.

team Test beer Documented water system contamination is known and from other popular beers with unknown water sources.

Through their research, it was discovered that the beer was brewed. North CarolinaCalifornia and Michigan had increased levels of this PFA.

Researchers found a strong correlation between PFA concentrations in local government drinking water and levels of locally brewed beer.

In 95% of beers tested, PFA was discovered with two eternal chemicals, Perfluorooctane Sulfonate and Perfluorooctanoic acid, two recently established chemicals with EPA restrictions in recently established drinking water.

Tested International Beer – From 1, 2 from the Netherlands Mexico – There was little chance of having a detectable PFA.

“Our findings show a strong link between drinking water and beer PFA, indicating that beer is brewed in areas with high PFA in local drinking water, which converts to higher levels of PFA in beer, and drinking water is the main route for PFAS contamination in beer,” the researchers concluded.
