Richardson Hitchens’ Boxing Future: Haney, Lopez, and the welterweight dream
Richardson Hitchens says he will rise to 147 to challenge Devin Haney for the WBO welterweight title if he defeats champion Brian Norman Jr. on November 22nd. Hitchens is not interested in fighting Norman Jr., so if he wins Haney, he won’t move to 147.
The Battle of Lopez: Money speaks
Another target on Hitchins’ two fighter list is Teofimo Lopez. All he needs is Turki Aralsiv to show interest in playing that fight. Theo will not face Richardson (20-0, 8 KOs) unless he pays the money he received for the title defense against Arnold Barboza Jr. on May 2nd. Still, it is unclear whether he will fight him.
The Hitchens earned their eighth knockout victory in New York City on June 14th. He believes that the battle put him on the world stage. However, it was quickly forgotten by fans and it was treated like junk food entertainment because it was a low-level opponent. Hitchens needs more than beating Cambosos Jr. to become popular, and he doesn’t want to take risks and become famous. If he were there, he would be willing to fight Norman Jr., and he would not.
“I did what Devin Haney and Theofimo Lopez couldn’t do. It was annihilation of George Cambosos,” Richardson Hitchens said. Karan Bhatia On his channel, “I said what I did. I wiped out and violated George Cambosus.”
There’s nothing that Hitchens boasts and knocks out a drained George Cambosos Jr. He was stopped in 2024 in the final battle of Vasily Lomachenko’s career. Cambosos had undoubtedly lost four of his last five fights before being selected as Hitchens’ opponent last June.
Rather than fighting Cambosus, Hitchens would have been fighting the mandatory Sabrielle Matthias or Gary Anchanne Russell of the time. It seems bad that he chose Cambosus in place of those people. That’s what his career is about. He’s the same as everyone else. I don’t feel like trying to fight dangerously looking for a salary.
Haney, Lopez: “A simple job”
“Devin Haney and Theofimo Lopez,” Richardson said when asked who he wanted next. “A simple job. He (Honey) is in business (WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr. on November 22nd).
Hitchens Style: Runner Enemies
The Hitchens are not going to fight Haney or Theofimo. Because they don’t want to stay outside and fight anyone using the Shakur-esque three-stage pullback method. Haney is a runner himself, but he hasn’t fought with other runners. He is always focused on straight punchers. One exception is when he fought Vasily Lomachenko, but he had a large size advantage over him.
“When I got up, I don’t want to make excuses. He’s a bigger guy. He was weighed,” Richardson said of his dream of fighting Haney. “So, in my first fight at 147, when I stood up and grabbed his belt, the boxing world woke up and realized this was my s***.”
Hitchens’ 147 pound reality
Richardson needs to be more realistic. If he travels to 147, the only fighter he can potentially gain is WBO champion Brian Norman Jr. or Shafram Zyasov. In other words, a fighter plane that he is not keen to fight because he is likely to lose. Haney, Ryan Garcia, and Teofimo don’t fight him because he has a difficult style and is not popular.
“We don’t really like each other. We bite each other. That’s what we don’t like each other. It’s going to be a great fight for boxing,” Hitchens said of the fight between him and Devin.
Haney endures the Hitchens annoyed, housefly, but he has no real interest in fighting him. The person Haney wants is Ryan Garcia
