Richardson Hitchens defends the unpopular George Cambosos Jr. battle with the aim of boosting the former Fade champion ahead of the June clash
IBF Light Welterweight Champion Richardson Hitchens is working hard to boost George Cambosos Jr. by reminding fans of his past achievements for the June 14th fight at the theatre at Madison Square Garden in New York. The event will be displayed I live in Dazen.
Fans have been overwhelmingly critical of the fight, looking at the Hitchens (19-0, 7 KOs) and picking by hand the declined former unified lightweight champion Cambosos (22-3, 10 KOs) who will take part in the fight with a 2-3 record in the last five fights. So he’s not 100% worthy of a title shot and has only fought once since moving to 140.
Justifying the Cambosus battle choice
Hitchens says a victory over Cambosos will “hard” his name in the boxing world. He sounds simple. Defeating Cambosos does nothing for the Hitchens. He would be better off giving Liam Paro a rematch or battle with Oscar Duarte, Sandor Martin or Sabriel Mattias.
“You can’t overlook Cambosos. Everyone wanted to see me and Theofimo Lopez fight. We couldn’t get him. He was a must. They chose to go that route,” Richardson Hitchens said. YSM Sports Media When asked why he chose George Cambosos Jr. as his next opponent. “Why not get the guy who beat Theofimo Lopez? Cambosos. He is the former indisputable champion (fixed: Cambosos is a former unified lightweight champion with three belts).
It was a mistake for Hitchens to have this fight with Cambosos Jr., as Hitchens is considered a joke. If the Hitchens fails to get a battle of unity, they would be better off fighting the best possible candidate. Cambosus is not the best candidate available. He had only fought once since moving to 140, facing down to Jake Willy, a lower level fighter.
“He was none other than anyone at the top of boxing. He also gave Teofimo Lopez a big victory, which is my battle to prove myself,” said Hitchens of Cambosos. “Liam Paro was supposed to beat me. Then they were supposed to have Liam Paro and George Cambossos in Australia. I ruined their plans.”
Richardson is trying to build Cambosos, not to make fans more trustworthy in order to make this fight. People already see Cambosus as a one-hit wonder of mediocre abilities. He lost three of his final five fights, and his only victory since 2022 came against Maxi Hughes and Jake Whyley.
Hitchens’ belief in Cambosos wins
“When Richardson Hitchens fights Cambosos, I’m (cherry) picking. It’s boxing. George Cambosos is a big name. It’s one step closer to solidifying my name in the sport of boxing. I know the threat poses by Matthias, but I don’t think he’s fought someone close to my level,” Hitchens said. “Every big name of 140 has come to 147 anyway. So why not. I don’t want to hold onto the IBF and continue to do the 10-pound rehydration clause.”
He has the frustration that Hitchens is doing about the IBF’s 10-pound rehydration rule, so he has to drop his belt and move up. If he plays a unified match against WBA champion Gary Anchanne Russell or WBC champion Alberto Puero, he may regret it. Russell probably beat him, and Puero would be a big problem for him too.
“Liam Paro defeated Matthias easily. If you can’t get Theofimo next, I want to come to Subriel Matthias and do his simple work to shut up everyone. After that, I don’t want to hear criticism. If you can’t have a big fight, then go up to 147 and see what’s going on,” Hitchens said.
Richardson should forever forget Theofimo Lopez. Because it never happens. Theo focuses solely on the money fight, and when he can make a big buck to fight Jaron Ennis, Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney, he won’t want to have a dangerous, low-wage fight with the Hitchens. Hitchens drops his IBF belt and moves to 147, hoping that Turki Aralsif will notice him to set up a fight against one of those guys.
The chances of Hitchens fighting Matthias are only a small number unless he is open to the idea of fighting him. These two will compete on July 12th at Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York. Matthias could lose that fight.
Potential future opponents at 147
“After George Cambosos there are many options at the table. If you can’t get a big war at 140, I’ll drop my belt and try another title shot (147). These are the battles that make sense to me.” I just want to show that Richardson Hitchens is one of the best fighters in the sport of boxing,” Hitchens said.
The Hitchens should start thinking about resigning from the IBF 140 pound title after his defense against Cambosos Jr. on June 14th and rising to 147. He’s not going to have a big fight at 140. It never happens, and it seems he’s silly pinning for it.
“If we can’t integrate at 140, we don’t want to continue with the IBF (10 pound rehydration) rule.
Three unbeaten battles in just one year.
From the biggest victory of his career, he defeated the undefeated world champion to Fresh – kicking out Boogie Man.
After that, I’m trying to defeat the 4th World Champion on my resume. All battles are for those under 20 years old.I’m him! 😤
