Rubiales claims that Hermoso agreed to the kiss during the 2023 World Cup celebration

Luis Luviarez says Spanish footballer Jenny Hermoso agreed to the kiss he gave her after the 2023 Women’s World Cup final.

The former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) is currently facing trial on charges of sexual assault and coercion, accusing Hermoso of putting pressure on him to declare a kiss in the agreement.

Appearing before the Spanish national court in Madrid, Luviarez said he was “absolutely certain” that Hermoso had agreed to the kiss. He described the moment as “completely spontaneous.”

The controversial incident took place at a medal ceremony following Spain’s victory at the World Cup, sparking widespread protests and demands over Rubiales’ resignation. He continues to deny criminal misconduct.

During his testimony, Rubiales added: “This was an incredible moment for her. We were grateful for each other, she pressed me very hard around her hips, and I was kissing her I asked if I could do it and she said yes.

“I tried not to rely on her.”

When questioned in court about the exact language he used to ask for a kiss, Rubiales responded, whether he said “kiss” and “little kisses.” ”

He was also asked if he knew of regulations regarding sexual harassment and sexual violence.

Hermoso firmly refused to give consent in a previous court statement that the case “dyed down one of the happiest days of my life.”

On Tuesday, lip reading experts testified in court, analysing video footage where Hermoso was unable to see her face. According to their findings, Rubiales asked, “Can I kiss you?”

Rubiales admitted that his actions on the podium were inappropriate, but he insisted that no crime had been committed. “I made a mistake,” he admitted. “My actions were not appropriate. I should have been in a more institutional role.”

Prosecutors are seeking Leviarl’s two and a half years in prison.
