Shakur Stevenson declared:
Shakur Stephenson was on his hind legs and recalled how he told William Zepeda’s trainer Jay “Panda” Najar at a kickoff press conference last May. “Break it” Zepeda was in Queens, New York on July 12th.
Stevenson vs. Zepedaling Size
He needs to be more concerned about how he will escape Zepeda (33-0, 27 Kos) in the 18-foot ring that Turki Aralsif holds at the July 12 event at Louis Armstrong Stadium. If WBC lightweight champion Stephenson is busy trying to avoid him with that little ring, knocking Zepeda would be nearly impossible.
Shakur’s Zepeda “Crash” talk
Stevenson didn’t say what his “crash” prediction actually meant. That could mean that Shakur is turning the fight into a track tournament and aiming for a 12-round decision victory. That’s even more believable.
“So we’re turning. He gives me this lovely boy act and sees him doing really good things. Then he sees the crowd and sees him raising his hands to shut them up,” Shakur Stephenson said. Ring MagazineHe will talk about his showdown with William Zepeda at a kickoff press conference held in New York on May 15th.
Zepeda had told the Shakur crowd to be quiet, as he would do a lot to their heroes on July 12 by kicking him out of the ring. He had already predicted that Stephenson would not have the courage to stand and fight like Tevin Farmer.
That’s not just a story. Shakur is not as powerful, tough or bold as a farmer. He isn’t either. Stevenson is a 100% runner, while Farmer is a boxer/puncher. So he was able to drop Zepeda in the fourth round in his first fight last November.
Zepeda’s power, Shakur’s vulnerability
“When he said, I’m like, ‘Panda, I’m telling Zepeda I’m going to crush you.’ I want him to know that I will crush him.
With a KO rating of 47.83%, it’s unlikely that Shakur will knock out Zepeda on July 12th. The small force he holds is reduced by the hand of his glass. Stevenson is not built for slugging with a ton of punchers like Zepeda. He’s too fragile and even if his hands aren’t fragile, he’d be too weak to trade power shots with Mexican knockout artists.
