Six Flags could close California’s Great America Amusement Park by 2027

Six Flags California’s Great America, a 112-acre theme park that opened nearly 50 years ago in Santa Clara, California, is scheduled to close in October 2027 after the Halloween season before the end of the current lease. Reported by People Magazine.
“Unless we decide to extend it and exercise one of the options to extend its lease, it will be after the ’27 season without that extension,” CFO Brian Witherow said in May 20th at the company’s Six Flags Investor Day 2025.

Descend California said Maryland’s amusement parks and Six Flags America are “two parks with very low margin rankings.”
“At this point, we are still in the planning stage, working with stakeholders and engaging in the community,” a spokesman for Six Flags told Fox Business in an email. “Until we learn more, we will continue to focus on the great seasons already underway at the park and upcoming events.”

The California Amusement Park was originally built On public landHowever, Cedar Fair bought 112 acres under the park in 2019 for about $150 million. In 2022, Cedar Fair sold the land to real estate company Progis for approximately $310 million under a lease agreement. As mentioned in a 2022 news release from Cedar Fair, the lease is expected to end in 2028, with the option of extending the term for another five years.

Prologis spokesman, Los Angeles Times Earlier this year, the real estate company said it was already working with design and planning experts to “help create a master plan” for Santa Clara Properties.
Prologis did not immediately respond to a request for Fox Business’s comment.

News of the possibility of West Coast Park closure follows shortly after Six Flags America and Hurricane Port in Bowie, Maryland, announced that it will eventually operate on November 2nd. parkwith the oldest roller coaster in all properties, it is no longer a “strategic fit with our long-term growth plans.”
“After reviewing many options, we believe that selling property for redevelopment will create the highest value and return on investment,” Six Flags CEO Richard Zimmerman said in a statement at the time.
