Spotify suggests a more chatty voice AI interface in the future
Spotify has experimented with a variety of voice interfaces in the past, and recently added AI DJs that allow you to introduce songs that the company thinks they like and create your own requests. Now, Spotify is bullied that it could pave the way for an even more conversational interface with future streaming services, according to comments made during a second-quarter revenue call with investors on Tuesday.
Asked about how AI is affecting your business, Gustav Söderström, Chief Products and Technology Director at Spotify, pointing out that today’s consumers can talk to Spotify and request music, allowing them to associate which phrases connect to which songs.
“You can think of it as we’re getting a new dataset,” he said. “Spotify has this unique dataset from all the playlists. It was really a song from song. To make this work with another song, the people on Amazon who bought this also bought it,” he said. Meanwhile, the voice interface offers new insights to the company.
“It’s a whole new thing for us, it’s a very valuable dataset, and it’s gathering very quickly,” he added.
As a result, executives say they can expect Spotify’s consumer experience to be “more interactive.”
“You can already write to Spotify and talk to Spotify. You just need to see it expand,” Söderström said.
Plus, with AI technology, Spotify isn’t just predicting what someone wants to listen to, like it does today, music, podcasts, audiobooks, and more. Rather than just making predictions, you can “infer” what your listening history and what you said to your AI DJ. References to inference suggest that Spotify is turning to AI inference models that allow for more complex tasks in multiple steps.
