Sri Lanka has hit a power outage nationwide

Sri Lanka is suffering from a nationwide blackout as buildings, including hospitals, require power to rely on generators to supply electricity.

The stop that began at 11:30 local time (06:00 GMT) has not yet been completely fixed.

The Ceylon Electrical Board (CEB) said the blackout was caused by a department emergency and was working to recover supply.

According to AFP News Agency, Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody reportedly accused the monkey of causing a halt, saying the animals had become “in contact with a grid transformer that causes system imbalances.”
