On Wednesday, the Road Security Agency (TSA) reminded the public that from Wednesday, May 7, 2025, all air travelers age 18 and older must have a state-issued license, guidance permit or identification card, or another ID of the ID to board a US commercial aircraft, according to a media release.
The actual ID has a gold star in the top right corner, TSA said.
“With federal enforcement of Real ID, just four weeks away, we cannot fully emphasize the importance of travelers being prepared,” TSA Federal Security Director KC Wurtsbaugh said in a statement.

“It will take a few minutes now and then determine the format of photo identification to use to verify your identity the next time you travel in the air,” he continued. “Even if you don’t have plans to travel in the sky right now, your plans can change. Now is the time to plan.”
