Terrence Crawford believes his skill set will determine the determinant of his match against Canelo
In the sport of boxing, the phrase “skill pays the bill” is a popular proverb, and Terrence “Bad” Crawford feels that his skills cover his debts on Saturday night, September 12th.
The matchup will be held at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. For nearly seven years, Canelo has competed and dominated the 168 pound division. On the night of September 12th, Terrence Crawford is about to make his historic debut as an ultra-middleweight.
Terrence Crawford returned to the historic match in July 2023 when he faced then unified WBC, WBA and IBF world welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr.
After being dropped, Spence tried to bring in some offensiveness, but every time he tried to enter attacking mode, Crawford tagged him with a sharp counter punch. Throughout the contest, Bud Crawford’s footwork, timing and punching arrangement were impeccable.
Two minutes left in the seventh round, Spence sent him onto the second canvas, with Crawford landing the right uppercut on the counter. As Round 7 was approaching the end, Crawford dropped his third Spence when he connected with a sharp right hook.
Later in the ninth round, Crawford landed a gust of hard shots, forcing the referee to intervene and stop the contest. With the victory, Terrence Crawford made history by becoming the first male boxer to become the uncontroversial world champion in two divisions.
Currently Terrence “Bad” Crawford (41-0, 31 Kos) is in the same position as trying to face a boxer for a pound for a pound. With the victory, Crawford makes history by becoming the first male boxer in the third division, uncontroversial.
Terence Crawford Naysayers believes weight is a factor due to the fact that Crawford is moving two divisions to face Canelo. In an interview with Wade Concept, Crawford gave an example of how weight is not an issue.
“When USYK fought for Tyson Fury, Tyson Fury was a large USYK fighter, and the big guy won’t win either fight,” Crawford said.
Terence Crawford is a fighter with all the tools. He is a switch hitter, with ring IQ, footwork, hand speed and both hands power. He is an excellent counter puncher.
Crawford has the skills necessary to defeat Canelo, but the biggest question is how to deal with Canelo’s brand of attack and power. The Battle of Canelo was a historic match with Crawford, and in his interview he spoke about the meaning of victory.
“It means everything. Everything that worked so hard to make the whole career come out in that moment, one night of boxing, everyone could see the great Terrence Crawford do unprecedented and unthinkable.”
